Congratulations to all of our ice hockey teams and athletes on phenomenal seasons. The 2015-2016 season has ended, but, before we look ahead to the 2016-2017 season, we want to recognize some outstanding accomplishments by our Next Level teams and athletes this year.  The athletes and teams below were recognized with high honors by NJ.com/The Star-Ledger for their top-tier performances this season.

Players of the Year

For the second year in a row, we are ecstatic to announce that both the boys ice hockey Player of the Year and girls ice hockey Player of the Year, as selected by NJ.com, are athletes who train at Next Level. Needless to say, being chosen as the overall player of the year statewide is an incredible recognition of talent, drive, dedication, and ability. We are unbelievably proud of Andrew Petrillo, the boys Player of the Year, and Ally Detre, the girls Player of the Year.

Andrew is a senior varsity defenseman for Delbarton, who logged 14 goals and 60 assists in four years with the Green Wave. This season, Andrew amassed 24 points—three goals and 21 assists. Andrew was also our 2014-2015 Next Level Athlete of the Year. Last year, Andrew was drafted by the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL Entry Draft; in fact, Andrew was already able to join the Phantoms on the ice a few times this past year. Andrew has committed to play college hockey as part of the University of Vermont Catamounts.

Ally, a sophomore forward for Morristown-Beard, led the state in scoring this season with an impressive 52 points, split evenly with 26 goals and 26 assists. In her two-year career with the Crimson, Ally has 92 points overall. With 40 points last year, Ally was named NJ.com Rookie of the Year in the 2014-2015 season.  With two more years ahead of Ally at Morristown-Beard, we are excited to see what amazing statistics she puts up. Ally also plays hockey for the New Jersey Colonials 16U Tier I team.

Team of the Year

The NJ.com Team of the Year for 2015-2016 is Delbarton, who secured the 2016 NJSIAA Non-Public championship title. As we mentioned in our feature on the NJSIAA tournament and Delbarton’s state title, as well as in our feature on Delbarton head coach Bruce Shatel, this year’s is the eleventh state championship for the Green Wave. Delbarton captured this year’s in a thrilling 3-1 victory over Christian Brothers Academy, who Delbarton faced in last year’s Non-Public finals as well.

In the statewide top 20 rankings, Morristown-Beard finished sixth.
